The place where we live

Art and Christianity responded to an invitation to partner the London Diocesan Fund (LDF) in May 2019 to act as consultant on a project delivering a series of workshops led by artists for pupils at the New River College (NRC) referral unit in Islington. The workshops are to address the history and social context of Holy Trinity, Cloudesley Square which the LDF is engaged in regenerating after closure in 2018.

The work comprises part of the required outputs from the Our Heritage project ‘Tales from the Crypt’, which was awarded to the LDF by the Heritage Fund in March 2019.

A+C contracted the artists Anna Sikorska and Nir Segal to undertake the preparation and delivery of the workshops in the Autumn term of 2019.

The children from NRC worked with the artists on making silhouette stickers, using coloured vinyl and black, light boxes, clay tiles and bells, marbled paper, and a sheild-shaped sign which they used as a template for an invitation to invite their parents to an exhibition at the school.

The covid pandemic broke out just as the exhibition was due to open at Islington Museum but a smaller exhibition was open to the public in the church later in the year.
