Art and Christianity invites entries for the 2019 Award for Art in a Religious Context. Entries for either temporary or permanent commissions in or within the grounds of buildings dedicated to the worship of any faith community will be considered for the award of £5,000. Entries must be in the United Kingdom and completed between July 2015 and July 2019.

The A+C Art Award seeks to commend the collaborative process of the commission and both clients and artists must give their permission for the entry. To this end £2,500 of the prize money will go to the artist(s) of the winning scheme and £500 to the client.

A+C Award for Art in a Religious Context


Given in association with the Martin McLaren Charitable Trust, Art and Christianity invites entries for the 2019 Award for Art in a Religious Context. Entries for either temporary or permanent commissions in or within the grounds of buildings dedicated to the worship of any faith community will be considered for the award of £5,000. Entries must be in the United Kingdom and completed between July 2015 and July 2019.

The A+C Award seeks to commend the collaborative process of the commission and both clients and artists must give their permission for the entry. To this end £2,500 of the prize money will go to the artist(s) of the winning scheme and £500 to the client. A specially commissioned artwork will also be offered to the client to display during 2019.

Criteria

The artwork submitted must be within the building or grounds owned or leased to an active faith community and completed in the last five years. The commission must be exemplary in its relationship to its context, its capacity to engage in the particular modes of worship and activities taking place within its environment. It can be in any medium.

 

Entry rules

Please note that the award is open to artworks situated within the grounds of any faith group.
Artworks must have been completed and in situ by 3 July 2019 (unless they have already been exhibited in a short-term capacity) after which date site visits to the short-listed works may take place.
Anyone may submit one or more artworks in the UK. Members of the public, users of the buildings and clients are all encouraged to nominate works for consideration, with the agreement of the artist(s) and of the building owners where the work is sited.

 

Entry fees and how to apply

Applicants must complete the entry form below and submit if with the £40 fee
The deadline for applications is 6pm on 3 July 2019.
The consent of the artist(s) and the building owner to the nomination must be given prior to entry (see application form).
Images or relevant media for the proposed artwork must be submitted digitally (see application form for further details)

Publicity and Artwork Policy

Submission of an entry will be taken to imply the granting of permission to publish all material and particulars of the short-listed works. A+C accepts no responsibility for the publication of inaccurate information supplied with the entry. Material relating to the short-listed entries will be retained for publicity and archive purposes. The entry form includes a statement that the photographs submitted can be reproduced for the purposes of publicising the award on condition that credit if given to the photographer. To this end, entrants must submit the name and permission of the photographer. For postal entries, all material accompanying unsuccessful entries will be returned to entrants after the prize-giving if entrants wish. Whilst every effort will be made to ensure their careful handling and safe return, the organizers cannot accept any responsibility for their loss or damage.
